An association originally formed to represent local telephone companies has closed its doors after more than 25 years, the news site Broadband Breakfast reported Monday.
ITTA announced on Jan. 15 that it was closing because "financial constraints in the wireline service provider sector have presented insurmountable challenges." Broadband Breakfast noted that two of ITTA's largest members, CenturyLink and Consolidated, had previously said they would not renew their memberships in the organization. "Wireline" refers to broadband services provided through physical lines.
ITTA was founded in 1993 by a group of medium-sized local telephone companies that wanted a Washington, D.C.-based association that represented their interests, according to the group's now-defunct website. The association reported $915,274 in revenue in its most recent tax filing and listed two employees on its website, including President Genevieve Morelli.
"With its lean structure, ITTA has been able to introduce innovative policy reforms and respond quickly to policy proposals as the telecom industry continues to modernize and evolve," Morelli said in a statement. http://bit.ly/2vR9VBJ
